چکیده
Serratia species are opportunistic, gram-negative, motile bacteria classified in the large family Enterobacteriaceae and differentiate from Klebsiella spp. with slow fermenting lactose DNAase positive (1,2). One of characteristics that distinguishes them other is to synthesize red pigments, prodigiosins. It can cause nosocomial infections especcialy newborns patients intensive care units. spp.; responsible for approximately 2% infections; has been reported as agent especially respiratory tract infections, urinary bacteremia. An outbreak S. marcescens blood stream infection identified receiving contaminated parenteral nutrition bags (2). meningitis, wound arthritis outbreaks pediatric wards (3). In this text we aimed present a three half year old girl case acute bacterial meningitis due ventriculo-peritoneal shunt.

Serratia Marcescens Infection Complicating Peritoneal Dialysis.
Serratia marcescens (Chromobacterium prodigiosum) is a freeliving saprophyte generally regarded as being non-pathogenic (Wilson and Miles, 1955). There is, however, reason to believe that under certain conditions this organism may be pathogenic. Three instances are here reported in which S. marcescens infection of the peritoneum occurred during peritoneal dialysis for acute renal failure. All t...
متن کاملIdentification of carbapenemase genes in Serratia spp
Background Reports of nosocomial infection due to carbapenem resistant Serratia spp. have become significantly more common. This resistance may be due to production of distinct carbapenemases, such as KPC [1,2]. This enzyme, initially described in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates, has also been detected among other organisms, such as Serratia marcescens, emphasizing the global risk of interspecie...
متن کاملComparative Genomics of Serratia spp.: Two Paths towards Endosymbiotic Life
Symbiosis is a widespread phenomenon in nature, in which insects show a great number of these associations. Buchnera aphidicola, the obligate endosymbiont of aphids, coexists in some species with another intracellular bacterium, Serratia symbiotica. Of particular interest is the case of the cedar aphid Cinara cedri, where B. aphidicola BCc and S. symbiotica SCc need each other to fulfil their s...
متن کاملStudy about Antibiotic Resistance in Serratia Spp. Isolated from Hospitalized Patients
The retrospective study included 96 Serratia strains isolated from the patients hospitalized in the Clinical County Emergency Hospital Braşov during 2013. The objectives consisted in the evaluation of frequency and distribution of Serratia species in the hospital departments, in analysing the infections in which this germs were implicated and determination of antimicrobial resistance of the iso...
متن کاملOccurrence of sep insecticidal toxin complex genes in Serratia spp. and Yersinia frederiksenii.
Some strains of Serratia entomophila and S. proteamaculans cause amber disease of the grass grub Costelytra zealandica (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). Three genes required for virulence, sepABC, are located on a large plasmid, pADAP. Sequence analysis suggests that the sepABC gene cluster may be part of a horizontally mobile region. This study presents evidence for the putative mobility of the sep ...
